If there’s a sport that I truly appreciate is to watch a good job interview, like a sophisticated dogfight. Nothing better than a great "U" shaped table in a small room with no windows to whet the animal instinct.
The best performing happens even before the interview, when candidates are left alone under suspicion of a "big brother" or a spy. Incisors glances, smiles oscillating between the truth of inside and the falsehood launched to outside, free hands clamping down, gnawed nails and the tie, always the tie, the real and the invisible one, leaving candidates inclined.
It is no coincidence that the majority of psychologists appreciates the silence, how the candidate says "good morning", the way he chooses to sit, if the candidate sits only on the edge of the chair, if his arms are out of the chair, if the shirt survives with only a button open above the chest, if he moves his hands, moves his hands too much, uses a pen and in the middle of all this still risks stutter. Sometimes it’s in this silence made of inanities - which was invented by the child who went to school without will of listen to the teacher – that the future of a professional is decided.
Psychological evaluations are fashion. Nowadays, there are even weeks of testing with only one objective: evaluate the stress of the candidates before exams. It’s precisely this return of the silent cinema that makes the lives of psychologists of Human Resources so exciting.
This not means that the group dynamic isn't exciting. ¿What better thriller than ten candidates trying to submit their ideas and convince others to agree with them in only five minutes? ¿What better comedy than see the young, who is very intelligent but timid, wary and laconic, wearing, as did Álvaro de Campos, a wrong suit, which will be "glued to the face" until old age?
That's the way in which the competitive world wins, fed by the less powerful ones. The problem doesn't lie in companies seeing us as numbers, but in the fact that we accept, as a group, have a number drawn in the forehead.
Robotics will thus flooding the human world, not just with machines, but especially with ways of work. Therefore, one escape from the status established through the path of creativity - which, it should be noted, has signed Man's survival - is cause for doubt and, consequently, for disapproval in social and professional fields.
To the directors of Human Resources departments: ¿how about proposing candidates to appear in the most original way, exhibiting their best predicates and presenting their ideas to the group individually?
It's time to super heroes stop wearing masks. The horned Batman will be grateful.
